The chanter, which terminates with
an ox horn, plays a C Major scale
using a 6-finger keynote. More
than just for show, the horn adds a
distinctive nasal quality to the
chanter.
How does it sound?
Although those in the illumination
are droneless, other bagpipes of
the era had at least one. Since a
drone does so much to enhance
and reinforce the chanter, I have
added one here. Of course, if you
desire a Chorus, as they were
called, I can build one without the
drone. The single drone is rich in
harmonics and plays one octave
below the chanter on C.
The hand-stitched bag is the early
rounded, turn-stitch style. A horn
tip tops the blow stick.
Volume is on par with my other
sets, blending nicely with strings
or other early wind instruments.
I also offer the Cantigas Bagpipe in
the key of D with either open or
highland fingering.
Available in Maple or Cherry, the
Cantigas Bagpipe comes to you set
up and ready to play in a fabric
carry bag along with a copy of my
book, Bagpipe for the Absolute
Beginner.
Cantigas Bagpipe
The Cantigas Bagpipe is a smallpipe patterned after one of the styles depicted in
the Cantigas De Santa Maria ca 1200.
