The Hummelchen ( little bumble bee ) is yet another quiet chamber pipe.
It is based on the sketch by Michael Praetorius in his
"Syntagma Musicum" -1618/19.  The Hummelchen is
one of the styles commonly referred to as medieval
small pipes. Superb on its own as a solo instrument,
it's also at home in mixed consorts with recorders,
citoles, and pipe & tabor.

The Hummelchen has two drones in a common stock.
The bass is on C an octave below the bell note of
the chanter. The baritone drone can be tuned to play
either G or F.

The open fingered chanter plays
one octave--C to c with a B or Bb
(your choice) below the C.
The example above is turned in
Yew. The cap on the drone stock is
walnut.  The blow stick is topped
off with an ox horn tip.  Other
suitable choices would be
sycamore, cherry and walnut with
mounts from yew, ebony, holly,
lignum vitae, or satinwood.
As with all my pipes, the Hummelchen comes
to you set up and ready to play.  A fabric carry
bag, note chart, and a free copy of my book,
Bagpipes for the Absolute Beginner, are
included.
